Serebrennikov Tchaikovsky’s Wife

One of last year’s highlights in Cannes was Kiril Serebrennikov’s Petrov’s Flu (Petrovy v grippe). Now he will return with a new film called Tchaikovsky’s Wife. Return could be written in quotation marks since the director has not been able to attend the festival in person the last two times when he had a film in Cannes. Since then, he has left Russia and currently resides in Berlin. The new work depicts the famous composer and his tumultuous relationship with the titular wife. The film will premiere on Wednesday and is one of the most eagerly awaited films in the competition.

The director will once again collaborate with cinematographer Vladislav Opelyants, which in itself is a clear sign that this will turn out to be the most cinematically satisfying film at the festival. An official clip can be seen below.
